  1. Good morning and welcome to the Malaysian International Accountants Conference 2023. As you are aware, the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) is the regulator, and we are also entrusted to develop the profession as mandated in the Accountants Act 1967.
  2. It is our pleasure to host you at this Conference which is the pinnacle of MIA’s extensive professional development calendar. For the financial year ending 30 June 2023, we are on track to deliver close to 900 continuing professional development programmes to support more than 38,000 MIA members as well as non-members who are working in commerce and industry, public practice, public sector and academia. Many thanks for your support and response to our programmes.
  3. 2023 is a very special year for the Conference. First, 2023 marks our return to the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre in the post-pandemic economy. For 2021 and 2022, the Conference was held virtually in compliance with pandemic restrictions and to ensure the safety of our delegates and speakers and partners. Second, this is our first-ever hybrid Conference, where we are welcoming both physical delegates and virtual delegates. While we are exhilarated to be back in person, we are also offering virtual attendance to make the Conference more accessible for those who wish to attend remotely. Third, we are elated to welcome close to 3,500 delegates, surpassing previous attendance records. This achievement is a testament to the Conference’s continuing relevance as one of the region’s largest congregations of accountants. We thank you profusely for your endorsement and extend our utmost gratitude to all delegates, speakers, sponsors and partners for choosing to attend and support the MIA Conference 2023. We appreciate your trust in us.
  4. As always, the MIA team has carefully crafted the conference programme on the latest key developments affecting the accountancy profession and invited a compelling line-up of expert speakers. Throughout the course of the Conference, you will be hearing from some of the most talented and experienced leaders in various sectors, including our honoured guests IFAC President Asmâa Resmouki. I am also delighted to share with you that YB Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan Deputy Minister of Finance 1 who has kindly accepted our invitation to be our guest of honour and to officiate the Opening Ceremony later today. Thank you very much to MoF and IFAC for the marvellous support.
  5. The theme of the Conference for 2023 is “FUTURE FIT PROFESSION: CHARTING A BETTER TOMORROW”. Over these two days, you can expect a strong focus on ESG and sustainability, technology, taxation, governance and other key issues that are impacting business and the profession, in order to equip you for rapid and unprecedented changes.
  6. Ladies and gentlemen, to conclude my remarks, I would like to once again thank all our distinguished speakers, sponsors, partners and everybody who collaborated with us to deliver this Conference. I would also like to express MIA’s heartfelt appreciation to our delegates once again for attending this Conference. You inspire us to do our best, and we hope to exceed your expectations.
  7. On that note, I wish you an eye-opening, productive, and enjoyable Conference. Thank you!
