NACRA 2025 CELEBRATES LEADERS IN CORPORATE REPORTING EXCELLENCE
Kuala Lumpur – The 35th National Annual Corporate Report Awards (NACRA) once again shone a spotlight on Malaysia’s best corporate reporters as 28 organisations were recognised for their achievements in transparent, high-quality annual reporting last night.
The evening’s highest honours — the Platinum Excellence Awards — were presented to Malayan Banking Berhad, Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad, UEM Edgenta Berhad, and Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas), each distinguished by the overall strength, clarity and depth of their reporting.
Established in 1990, NACRA is jointly organised by Bursa Malaysia Berhad, the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) and The Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA). The awards continue to serve as a national benchmark for organisations striving to improve the quality and integrity of their annual reports, aligned with its theme, “Towards Accountability and Excellence”.
In his opening address, NACRA 2025 Organising Committee Chairman – Mr Foong Mun Kong acknowledged the collective effort of participating organisations in raising disclosure standards. He remarked, “This year, NACRA celebrates an inspiring achievement — a record number of 60 participating organisations. This is a strong signal that corporate Malaysia is embracing the spirit of continuous improvement in reporting and disclosure and is a testament to the growing appreciation for excellence in corporate reporting.”
The evening’s Guest of Honour, Minister of Finance II, YB Senator Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan, commended the rising maturity in Malaysian corporate reporting. He stated, “High-quality corporate reporting does not merely satisfy compliance requirements. It builds trust between companies and investors, between management and employees, and between the private sector and the public. When companies communicate openly about their strategies, risks, performance, and impact on society, they invite confidence. And with confidence comes investment, growth, and resilience.” He further added, “This alignment is crucial as Malaysia transitions towards a net-zero economy, attracts foreign investment, and builds resilience in an increasingly complex global landscape. Malaysia has pledged to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions as early as 2050, and integrated reporting provides the accountability mechanism to track progress.”
Sharing an overview of this year’s assessment process, MICPA President, Mr Soo Hoo Khoon Yean, representing the Chairman of the NACRA 2025 Adjudication Committee, noted the strong performance across categories. “The overall quality of submissions this year was commendable. Many reports demonstrated greater integration between financial performance, strategy, and sustainability goals — a clear sign that Malaysian organisations are adapting to global reporting trends”, he said, highlighting that many organisations demonstrated notable improvements in narrative coherence, sustainability disclosures and financial clarity.
He added, “The improvements we observed this year are encouraging. Malaysian organisations are steadily strengthening their ability to communicate not only what they do, but why and how they do it responsibly.”
NACRA 2026 will remain open to all Malaysian-incorporated organisations — from listed companies to public sector bodies — that seek to showcase excellence in annual corporate reporting. The awards continue to encourage advancements in governance, accountability and openness, underscoring the importance of well-crafted annual reports in informing and engaging key stakeholders.
