SERVICES OF PROFESSIONAL ACCOUNTANCY FIRMS ARE NOW PART OF ESSENTIAL SERVICES UNDER THE NATIONAL RECOVERY PLAN (NRP)

The Government has announced that services of professional accountancy firms are allowed to operate physically under Phase 1 of the National Recovery Plan (NRP), with a capacity of 60%, based on the press release issued by the Deputy Prime Minister, YAB Dato’ Sri Ismail Sabri Yaakob on 19 July 2021.

with the above announcement, the MIA is pleased to inform member firms that it is now confirmed that services by professional accountancy firms will be listed as part of essential services, subject to strict adherence to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) applicable for professional accountancy firms. Professional accountancy has been listed as part of essential services after several engagements by MIA with relevant Government agencies.

As at the issuance of this Statement, Majlis Keselamatan Negara (MKN) has yet to upload the latest SOPs for professional accountancy firms. The MIA will inform all members once the SOPs applicable for professional accountancy firms have been uploaded by MKN.

On another note, MITI is currently setting up the COVID-19 Intelligent Management System (CIMS) to enable MIA member firms to apply for approval letters to facilitate the movement of employees and operations at office premises. This is also to enable MIA to approve the applications from genuine member firms through the CIMS.

Member firms can refer to MIA’s circular MF25/2021 issued today for detailed information.

MIA appreciates the Government’s response in supporting member firms, which will facilitate business operations and continuity as well as the wellbeing of the profession. In turn, we hope that our members will respect the Government’s decision by always prioritising the health and wellbeing of their staff as a defence against COVID-19. Although member firms are allowed to operate physically subject to strict adherence to SOPs and other requirements as stated above, member firms are still advised to work from home if there is no necessity to go to the office. Let us work together for the greater good of the community to win this battle against the pandemic.

The Institute will continue to closely monitor the situation, maintain close communication with the relevant authorities and our stakeholders, and notify members of any future developments.

We thank you for your understanding and patience and we hope that everyone will stay safe.
