More About Us
The Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) is a statutory body set up under the Accountants Act, 1967 to regulate and develop the accountancy profession in Malaysia.
Realising the importance for the Management Centre to continuously improve its service delivery to its stakeholder, the Institute has established its Service Charter which took effect from March 2009. The MIA Service Charter is a public document and it focuses on key areas in dealing with its members.
Objective
The MIA Service Charter has been developed to provide members with a clear understanding of our commitment and the standards of service that you can expect from us.
Our Commitment
- We will treat you courteously and with respect.
- We will be responsive to your needs and end our dealing with you professionally.
- We will respond to your request within the time set out and advise if extended time is needed.
- We will facilitate you to find the proper resources if we are unable to provide all the requested information.

Handling Enquiries
The response time for general enquiries are:
By telephone – within 2 working days
By e-mail – within 3 working days
By letter/fax – within 5 working days
Technical enquiries – 10 working days
The response time for technical enquiries is 10 working days. The Institute’s policy on handling technical enquiries among others require technical enquiry to be in writing and will respond to queries from members only.
Waiting Time for Servicing Walk-in Members
We will attend to walk-in members within 5 minutes.
Membership Application
- All membership applications have to be completed and submitted online via the MIA Member Services Portal.
- Applicants are required to complete the e-application form and attached the required supporting documents via online.
- Please login to MIA Member Services Portal to check the status of your application:- My Account>My Application History>CA/AM
We will process application which is complete and in order as follows:

- Membership (CA/AM) – not exceeding 2 months*
- Practising Certificate (PC) – not exceeding 2 months*
- Member Firm – within 3-5 working days
- ASEAN CPA – at least 8-12 weeks**
Note:
*Applications for Membership and PC require approval from the Council.
**Applications for ASEAN CPA require approval from the ASEAN CPA Coordinating Committee
Competency Framework and Development
We will acknowledge receipt of QE candidacy according to the mode:
By hand – on the same day (verified by MIA personnel)
By post – within 3 working days
We will process application which is complete and in order as follows:
QE Candidacy – not exceeding 2 months from the closing date*
New CARE – within 5 working days
CARE Mentor – within 5 working days
Request CARE Mentor from MIA – not exceeding 2 weeks
Note:
* MIA QE applications will be tabled to MIA Examination Committee for approval.
Professional Development Events
We will respond enquiries pertaining to registration and events within 2 working days. The Access Link will be forwarded as follows:
Webinar – at least 24-hours before the commencement of the webinar
E-learning – within 3 working days upon completion of payment
Issuance of Receipt for Subscription
The Institute ceased to accept payments through cash or cheque beginning January 2022.
Payment via online/EFT shall obtain the official receipt via online by login to MIA Member Services Portal.

We will treat your personal information confidentially. Your information will not be released to another party unless required by the relevant authorised bodies.
