MIA had been organising the Awards since 2008 with the objective of recognising authors for their valuable articles. The awards are open to all Malaysians. The author of the article may be involved in any aspect of work related to the roles and domain of the professional accountants in business.

The winning articles provide insights into the current developments and issues that shape the accountancy profession currently. The articles also help to promote best practices for the enhancement of the accountancy profession. The awards are an effort to recognise authors for their articles that are judged to contribute well to the development of the roles and domain of the Professional Accountants in Business (PAIB).

The Article of Merit Awards ended in 2019 in line with the cessation of the Article of Merit Awards by the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC).
