SCHOLAR IN RESIDENCE PROGRAMME IN ISLAMIC FINANCE

The Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) plays a dual role in the regulation and development of Malaysia’s capital market, of which the Islamic capital market is a significant component. Thought leadership has been an important developmental focus where, among others, the SC for the past nine years has been collaborating with the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies (OCIS), a Recognised Independent Centre of the University of Oxford, UK. One of the initiatives with OCIS is the Scholar in Residence (SIR) Programme in Islamic Finance, where academicians or practitioners of Islamic finance can take up residence at OCIS to conduct applied research on a topic of contemporary relevance to the field.

In this regard, we are pleased to invite members who are interested, to submit their application for the SIR programme to be considered for this position for the academic year 2019/20. Please note that the applicant must be a specialist in Islamic Finance and/or a closely related discipline, preferably with practical experience in policy-making with an international or comparative component. The applicant must also be able to show competence to conduct independent academic research as that would be their primary purpose for residence in Oxford. In addition, the Scholar will be expected to give occasional lectures and conduct seminars, to engage in collaborative study and, upon request, to provide outreach to relevant institutions and the local community.

The closing date for submission is 4 February 2019. The selected Scholar is expected to take up residence in Oxford commencing October 2019 for the academic year 2019/20.
