Impending Change in MIA

I would like to inform members that effective 31 December 2021, MIA’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr Nurmazilah Dato’ Mahzan will be leaving the Institute to pursue other interests and begin a new chapter in her career.

Dr Nurmazilah has served MIA as CEO since 2016, leading the Institute’s regulatory and nation building agenda. Throughout her career in MIA, she has contributed her expertise in various initiatives including governance, standards, digital transformation and integrated reporting. Among the major highlights of her tenure were the launch and implementation of the MIA Digital Technology Blueprint, MIA’s leadership and recognition as the national advocate for Integrated Reporting and her contribution as a member of the Integrated Reporting Framework board of the Value Reporting Foundation.

A key contribution of Dr Nurmazilah has been the organisational restructuring and systemisation of MIA into an effective professional accountancy organisation. The MIA Council acknowledges that the structure built at MIA is largely due to Dr Nurmazilah’s efforts. This is her legacy on which MIA will build on as it continues to advance and progress in line with the objectives stated in the Accountants Act 1967.

On behalf of MIA, the Council would like to extend its deepest gratitude to Dr Nurmazilah for her leadership, guidance and significant contribution in ensuring that the Institute remains on course in upholding its nation building agenda and future-proofing the accountancy profession. We wish her all the very best in her future endeavours.

To ensure a smooth transition, Dr. Nurmazilah has agreed to assist in the process of finding a successor and as such will stay on in an acting capacity for a period of time that will be mutually determined.

Thank you.
