  1. Passed any of the final examinations specified in *Part I of the First Schedule of the Accountants Act, 1967 and gained not less than of 3 years of working experience in the service of a Chartered Accountant or in a government department, local authority or other commercial, financial, industrial or professional organisation or any other undertaking approved by the MIA Council; and/or
  2. Member of any of the recognised bodies specified in **Part II of the First Schedule of the Accountants Act, 1967; and/or
  3. Passed the MIA Qualifying Examination (QE) and gained 3 years of working experience in the service of a Chartered Accountant or in a government department, local authority or other commercial, financial, industrial or professional organisation or any other undertaking approved by the MIA Council.
  1. Possess a first degree or a Master’s degree or higher in which he/she must have a major in accounting for either his/her first degree or Master’s degree; and
  2. He/she has not less than 3 years’ experience in teaching accountancy or accountancy-related subjects at an institution of higher learning or equivalent.

Applications to register as an MIA member will be done completely online. The Institute no longer accepts hardcopies. Here are the key instructions to submit an application online:

  1. Log in HERE.
  2. The applicant must first create an account. Click on ‘Don’t have an account’ link. You will receive an email on your registration to MIA Member Services Portal and another email confirming your username (i.e. your email address) and password that you have created.
  3. If the system prompts that your email address/IC number/phone number appears to be already registered with MIA, click on ‘Forgot Password’ link.
  4. The applicant should take utmost care in furnishing/providing the correct details while filling up the online application.
  5. Should you encounter any problems to register online, please contact the Membership Department at +603-2722 9000 or email membership@mia.org.my
  1. Before starting the online application, please have the following documents ready:
    • scanned copy of a recent passport size photo;
    • scanned copy of Identity Card being certified true;
    • scanned copy of degree certificate being certified true; and
    • scanned copy of Full Transcript of the Degree programme being certified true.
  2. Fill up the Personal Details, Qualification and upload the Supporting Documents. Following this, submit the application.
  3. An email notification will be sent on your enrolment to the CARE Programme.
  4. CARE mentee is required to appoint a mentor and update the Record of Technical and Generic Competencies:

    Appoint a Mentor:

    • 1st Option: If the mentee does not have a mentor and requires the support from MIA to source for a mentor, please click ‘Request MIA for Mentor’. MIA will assign a mentor and the mentor is given 10 days to accept the assignment.
    • 2nd Option: If the mentee has his/her preferred mentor who is an MIA member, please click ‘Add Mentor’ and provide the details for ‘Member No’ and ‘Member Name’. However, prior to this, the MIA member must be listed under the mentor listing. If your mentor has not applied to become a mentor, please request him/her to Submit Application – Apply for Mentor to be included in the Mentor list.

    Update Record of Technical and Generic Competencies: 

    The mentee is required to fill in details on the technical and generic record of experience for a minimum 3 years of working experience.

    • The technical competencies will be assessed by the mentor whereby the mentee has obtained practical experience in at least;
      1. One (1) technical area from Level 1 to Level 3; OR
      2. Two (2) technical areas from Level 1 to Level 2
    • The generic competencies will be assessed by the employer whereby the mentee has acquired ALL the generic competencies.
  5. Upon completing and signing off the CARE Programme, the mentee may submit application as a Chartered Accountant.
  6. The application fee payment of RM850.00 is to be made through Payment gateway (iPay88).

    • scanned copy of a recent passport size photo;
    • scanned copy of Identity Card being certified true;
    • scanned copy of Certificate of Membership being certified true; and
    • latest payment receipt of annual subscription fee to the professional body
  2. Submit the application as a Chartered Accountant. Fill up the Personal Details, Qualification, Working Experience and upload the Supporting Documents.
  3. The application fee payment of RM850.00 is to be made through Payment gateway (iPay88).
  1. Before starting the online application, please have the following documents ready:
    • scanned copy of a recent passport size photo;
    • scanned copy of Identity Card being certified true;
    • scanned copy of university degree or Master’s degree certificate/s or higher and Full Examination Transcript being certified true; and
    • scanned copy of Record of Teaching Experience (RTE).
  2. Academicians who wish to register as an Associate members must submit RTE to support not less than 3 years’ experience in teaching accountancy or accountancy- related subjects at an institution of higher learning or equivalent. Click HERE to download the RTE form.
  3. Submit application as Associate Member. Fill up the Personal Details, Qualification and upload the Supporting Documents.
  4. The application fee payment of RM700.00 is to be made through Payment gateway (iPay88).
  1. Documents must be certified true copy either by an MIA member (state name, membership number and signature), member of Parliament, Magistrate, Justice of Peace, Notary of Public or any other persons authorised under the provisions of the Statutory Declaration Act 1960. Alternatively, a declaration which acknowledges that copies of the documents are true originals may be performed before and attested by a Commissioner for Oaths.
  2. The Institute reserves the right to request for the copies of the documents, if necessary.
  3. Part time job, industrial training or employment of less than 6 months will be not considered as part of the 3 years.
  4. The Institute’s Financial Year is from 1 July to 30 June and is payable on 1 July annually (there is no provision for prorated annual subscription). As such, for applications submitted after 30 April 2018, please select financial year “New” for your membership to be approved in the New Financial Year (NFY) i.e. on or after 1 July. However, if you would like to be admitted into MIA membership in the Current Financial Year, please select financial year ‘Current’.
  5. Application by non-Malaysians:
    A non-Malaysian who wishes to apply for MIA membership would be required to comply with the residency requirements as follows:

    • The applicant is required to provide evidence that he/she has been in Malaysia for at least 182 days within a period of one year at the point of application; and
    • He/she has a permanent address in Malaysia.

    However, a non-Malaysian who is a member of a recognised professional accounting body under Part II of the First Schedule of the Accountant Act, 1967, and being offered employment in Malaysia with a valid work permit issued by the Government authorities may be considered for admission as a member even though he/she may not fulfill the residency requirement.

Note on Member Induction Course:

The Institute’s By-Laws provides that all newly admitted members would be required to attend the Member Induction Course (e-MIC) which is conducted via e-learning within 6 months from the date of admission. Please note that there will be a fee to enrol for the e-MIC.
