Become a A.M.(M)

  1. Passed any of the final examinations specified in *Part I of the First Schedule of the Accountants Act, 1967 and gained not less than of three (3) years of working experience in the service of a Chartered Accountant or in a government department, local authority or other commercial, financial, industrial or professional organisation or any other undertaking approved by the MIA Council; and/or
  2. Member of any of the recognised bodies specified in **Part II of the First Schedule of the Accountants Act, 1967; and/or
  3. Passed the MIA Qualifying Examination (QE) and gained 3 years of working experience in the service of a Chartered Accountant or in a government department, local authority or other commercial, financial, industrial or professional organisation or any other undertaking approved by the MIA Council.

  1. The applicant must first create an account. Click on ‘Don’t have an account’ link. You will receive an email on your registration to MIA Member Services Portal and another email confirming your username (i.e. your email address) and password that you have created.
  2. If the system prompts that your email address/IC number/phone number appears to be already registered with MIA, click on ‘Forgot Password’ link.
  3. The applicant should take utmost care in furnishing/providing the correct details while filling up the online application.

Note:

The Institute’s Financial Year is from 1 July to 30 June and is payable on 1 July annually (there is no provision for prorated annual subscription). As such, for applications submitted after 30 April 2018, please select financial year “New” for your membership to be approved in the New Financial Year (NFY) i.e. on or after 1 July. However, if you would like to be admitted into MIA membership in the Current Financial Year, please select financial year ‘Current’.

  1. Before starting the online application, please have the following documents ready:
    • softcopy of a recent coloured passport size photo;
    • scanned copy of Identity Card being certified true;
    • scanned copy of Degree certificate being certified true; and
    • scanned copy of Full Transcript of the Degree programme being certified true.
  2. Fill in the Personal Details, Qualification, Work Experience and upload the Supporting Documents.
  3. Applicant must complete the Chartered Accountants Relevant Experience Programme (please refer to the guideline on CARE Programme) before submitting the application.
  4. CARE Programme is a structured assessment programme based on the mentor-mentee approach. The applicant, a CARE mentee is required to appoint a mentor and update the Record of Technical and Generic Competencies:

    Appoint a Mentor:

    • 1st Option: If the mentee does not have a mentor and requires the support from MIA to source for a mentor, please click ‘Request MIA for Mentor’. MIA will assign a mentor and the mentor is given 10 days to accept the assignment.
    • 2nd Option: If the mentee has his/her preferred mentor who is an MIA member, please click ‘Add Mentor’ and provide the details for ‘Member No’ and ‘Member Name’. However, prior to this, the MIA member must be listed under the mentor listing. If your mentor has not applied to become a mentor, please request him/her to Submit Application – Apply for Mentor to be included in the Mentor list.
      Note:

      1. Please justify on the relationship between you and your mentor (i.e.: Immediate Superior/Division Head/etc). You may save the answer in PDF format and attach it in the supporting document.
      2. If you wish to change mentor, please email to CARE@mia.org.my and provide his/her name and membership number.


    Update Record of Technical and Generic Competencies: 

    The mentee is required to fill in details on the technical and generic record of experience for a minimum three (3) years of working experience.

    • The technical competencies will be assessed by the mentor whereby the mentee has obtained practical experience in at least;
      1. One (1) technical area from Level 1 to Level 3; OR
      2. Two (2) technical areas from Level 1 to Level 2
    • The generic competencies will be assessed by the employer whereby the mentee has acquired ALL the generic competencies. Section on “Describe how you have developed the Generic Competencies” by giving an example taken from your work-based experience” is compulsory for the mentee to complete.
  5. Upon completing and signing off the CARE Programme, the mentee may submit application as a Chartered Accountant.
  6. The application fee payment of RM850.00 is to be made through Payment gateway (iPay88).
  1. Before starting the online application, please have the following documents ready:
    • softcopy of a recent coloured passport size photo;
    • scanned copy of Identity Card being certified true;
    • scanned copy of Certificate of Membership being certified true or any such document from the professional body to evidence the membership and the date of admission; and
    • latest payment receipt of annual subscription fee to the professional body
  2. Submit the application as a Chartered Accountant. Fill in the Personal Details, Qualification, Working Experience and upload the Supporting Documents.
  3. The application fee payment of RM850.00 is to be made through Payment gateway (iPay88).

A non-Malaysian who wishes to apply for MIA membership would be required to comply with the requirements as follows:

    • The applicant must be a member of a recognised professional accounting body under Part II of the First Schedule of the Accountant Act, 1967.
    • He/she is required to provide evidence that he/she has been in Malaysia for at least 182 days within a period of one (1) year at the point of application; However, a non-Malaysian who is a member of recognised professional accounting body under Part II of the First Schedule of the Accountant Act, 1967 and being offered employment in Malaysia with a valid work permit issued by the Government authorities may be considered for admission as a member even though he/she may not fulfill the residency requirement; AND
    • He/she has a permanent address in Malaysia.
  1. Documents must be certified true copy either by the:
    • Commissioner for Oaths with a declaration which acknowledges that copies of the documents are true originals may be performed before and attested;
    • Active member of MIA (the certifier is required to indicate or stamp the copy with the words: “Certified to be a true copy of the original seen by me” and state name, membership number and signature on the document);

Note: The active member of MIA must be an independent third party of the applicant . Using a certifier whereby a perceived conflict of interest may exist (eg: family members), is not allowed.

    • Member of Parliament (the certifier is required to indicate or stamp the copy with the words: “Certified to be a true copy of the original seen by me” and provides signature with the official rubber stamp on the document);
    • Magistrate (the certifier is required to indicate or stamp the copy with the words: “Certified to be a true copy of the original seen by me” and provides signature with the official rubber stamp on the document);
    • Justice of Peace with a declaration which acknowledges that copies of the documents are true originals may be performed before and attested;
    • Notary of Public with a declaration which acknowledges that copies of the documents are true originals may be performed before and attested; OR
    • Any other persons authorised under the provisions of the Statutory Declaration Act 1960.
  1. The Institute reserves the right to request for the copies of the documents, if necessary.
  2. Part time job, industrial training or employment of less than 6 months will be not considered as part of the three (3) years.

The Institute’s By-Laws provides that all newly admitted members would be required to attend the Member Induction Course (e-MIC) which is conducted via e-learning within six (6) months from the date of admission. Please note that there will be a fee to enrol for the e-MIC.
