MIA President, Datuk Mohd Nasir Ahmad and Vice President, Abdul Rahim Abdul Hamid had recently made a courtesy call on the Minister of Higher Education, YBhg Dato’ Seri Mohamed Khalid Nordin.

The visit which lasted for almost an hour at the parliament house was with the intention of forging closer relationship between MIA and MOHE.

During the visit the President and Vice President took the opportunity to brief the Minister on some of the industry’s feedback regarding the current accountancy programmes offered by the local public universities. The general consensus of the industry was of the view that more can be done to further improve the programmes for it to be in line with international standards.

Acknowledging the issues raised by the Institute, the Minister has indicated his support to work closely with MIA and to identify areas of improvement as raised by the industry to further fine tune the accountancy education programme, enhance the competency level, streamline the direction of the accountancy programme and strengthen the assessment of competency for the purpose of certification of accountants according to international standards.

Also joining MIA President in this meeting, MIA Vice President, Abdul Rahim Abdul Hamid and MIA Acting CEO Ho Foong Moi.

Arising from this meeting, MIA and the Ministry are expected to hold meetings with the universities to discuss in detail the foregoing matters.

Also present in the courtesy visit were the Acting Chief Executive Officer of MIA, Ms Ho Foong Moi and several officers.
