Ganapathy is the Director of Strategy and Development Division. In this role, he leads MIA’s strategy, systems, methods, communications, branding, and continuing professional development functions — all critical to strengthening and articulating the Institute’s value proposition and advancing the future relevance of the accountancy profession.
A seasoned banker with over two decades of experience in Malaysia’s financial services sector, Ganapathy brings extensive expertise in leadership, strategic planning, business development, financial management, project management, risk management, regulatory compliance, governance, credit management and operational excellence. His career highlights include leading large-scale transformation initiatives, driving digitalisation and automation, and achieving sustainable growth in highly competitive markets.
Prior to joining MIA, he held leadership roles in the banking industry, overseeing business development, branch operations, service excellence, financial management, and strategic projects. He successfully delivered key initiatives such as process re-engineering, self-service terminal expansion, automation, and core system upgrades, achieving significant improvements in operational performance and business outcomes. In addition, he managed branch network expansions and relocations, driving measurable gains in service quality and operational efficiency, and played an instrumental role in strengthening overall business performance.
Ganapathy holds graduate and postgraduate qualifications in development science and finance from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and University of Staffordshire, complemented by professional certifications in Islamic Finance (IBFIM), Financial Consultancy (RFC), AML/CFT certified officer (AICB), and Lean Six Sigma Black Belt. His multidisciplinary expertise and versatile strategic leadership are essential in driving organisational growth, fostering innovation, and strengthening the profession’s future relevance.
