A management accountant by training, G Shan successfully branched out into professional development when he joined MIA in 2007. He was able to merge his experience in financial management, strategic planning, consulting, and training to deliver a new value proposition that has brought about positive changes to the MIA’s training and development business in supporting the profession. 

Under G Shan’s leadership, MIA has successfully transformed and expanded its professional development activities with diverse product offerings, leveraging new business models and smart partnerships with stakeholders to deliver relevant, prescient content that prepares accountancy professionals to be future relevant. Currently, MIA offers close to 900 CPD programmes annually, which upskill and reskill accountancy professionals while contributing significantly to the Institute’s financial sustainability. 

Under G Shan’s leadership, MIA has also won several awards for its contributions towards national human resources development namely the HRDCorp’s Malaysian Human Resources Minister’s Award, the rAWr (Recognising Award-Winning Results) ‘National Conference for Excellence’ Award for the MIA International Accountants Conference, and in 2018, the Conference was certified by the Malaysia Book of Records as the ‘Largest Gathering of Accountants in a Single Event’. 

G Shan plays a key role in the development of MIA’s strategic and operational plan, operational performance review and reporting, communications strategy of the future relevance of the profession,  MIA’s Integrated Reporting (IR) and driving CPD transformation and growth among others.

G Shan is a Chartered Accountant of MIA (CA), a Fellow member of the Institute of Chartered Management Accountants (FCMA), Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA), and an ASEAN CPA.
